Caramoor’s Terrance W. Schwab Vocal Rising Stars

Love at the Crossroads
First presented in November 2007, this revival features two couples who enact a series of linked romantic scenarios through songs and ensemble pieces. A wide range of composers, from Sondheim and Cy Coleman to Britten and Brahms, lead the audience through surprising permutations of love, lust, jealousy, and forgiveness.

The concert will feature a cast of exciting young voices as NYFOS marks its eleventh annual residency at Caramoor Center for the Music and the Arts with pianists and hosts Steven Blier and Michael Barrett. These song-intensives train young artists in programming and translation, presentation and production, and research and musical style. The culminating concerts are, in the words of The New York Times, “A hotbed of intriguing selections and rising singers.”

The Art of Pleasure

Maria Lacey, soprano
Amanda Lynn Bottoms, mezzo-soprano
Philippe L’Esperance, tenor
Johnathan McCullough, baritone
Steven Blier, piano

The opener of the 2018-19 NYFOS Emerging Artist series, this program features music by Piazzolla, Léhar, Bernstein, Lehrer, Strauss, Tosti, and Rachmaninoff. Steven Blier on the program: “The times are turbulent, but music is an anchor. This program delves into the pleasures of the senses, the glory of the human voice, and the beauty of love. And yes, we’ll also have a few songs about less noble pleasures—who doesn’t need a laugh right now? While songs themselves may not save the world, they heal listeners with calmness, courage, and a sense of connection.”
