About the Composers
Davide Zannoni was born in Italy. He started his career as a jazz drummer, subsequently joining the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra as a percussionist. He also received a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Bologna and studied composition privately. In 1988 he accepted a scholarship from Queens College where he received an M.A. studying composition wit Thea Musgrave, analysis with Carl Schachter and conducting with Maurice Peress. His works have been performed in Italy and in the U.S. He presently lives in New York.
Composer Nancy Gunn was born in New York City and studied at the University of Michigan and the City University of New York Graduate School. He has received awards from Meet the Composer, ASCAP (for Four Thoughts for Orchestra) and the National Endowment for the Arts (for her opera Trap Nest). Gunn is a founding member of Friends & Enemies of New Music and is on the faculty of Hunter College and Third Street Music School. Her Trio for violin, cello and piano will be premiered at Merkin Concert Hall on June 9.
